The Captain Cook Bridge is a road bridge that carries Taren Point and Rocky Point Roads across the Georges River in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The precast prestressed concrete girder bridge crosses near the river mouth as it empties into Botany Bay; and links the St George and Sutherland areas of Sydney.
The origins of Taren Point are also unclear. Thomas Holt (1811–88) owned the land that stretched from Sutherland to Cronulla and his name is commemorated with Holt Road. [2] There was a cane toad outbreak in Taren Point in 2010, which was controlled by 2014. No cane toads have been identified in the area since.
Rodney capsized and about to sink. On the afternoon of Sunday 13 February, thousands of Sydneysiders came to watch Louisville leave for Melbourne. The cruiser with 600 uniformed sailors lining the decks left her berth at Woolloomooloo with a band playing and onlookers cheering.
Taren Road was officially renamed Taren Point Road, between Taren Point and Kingsway in Caringbah, on 27 October 1948. [9] Main Road 199 was re-aligned to use the Captain Cook Bridge (replacing the old ferry service), and its southern end was truncated to the intersection of Taren Point Road and Kingsway, on 22 February 1967.
