David Dhalatnghu Gulpilil AM (1 July 1953 – 29 November 2021) was an Australian actor and dancer. He was known for his roles in the films Walkabout (1971), Storm Boy (1976), The Last Wave (1977), Crocodile Dundee (1986), Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002), The Tracker (2002), and Australia (2008).
Dhapalany was born in 1953 with her twin brother David Gulpilil, a renowned Aboriginal actor and dancer. [4] She learned her own weaving practice from her grandmother. [5] Her family members were active members of the arts community. Her brother, Peter Minygululu is an artist making bark carvings and bark paintings. [6]
He a member of the Marika family, and is also a son by lore of the actor David Gulpilil (who died in 2021). [3] [4] His mother was noted artist Ms. D. (Djerrkngu) Eunice Yunupingu (c.1945–2022), [5] [6] whose sisters included artists Gulumbu Yunupingu, Barrupu Yunupingu, and Nancy Gaymala Yunupingu. [7] among others.
