This wiring schematic utilizes a 4-wire humbucker in the bridge position and a 500k CTS push/pull pot. You can substitute with an Alpha style pot by soldering the red/white to the C1 position. The push/pull allows you to split the humbucker in either position 1 or 2.
The examples on the diagram shows two basic, popular ways of wiring 4-conductor humbuckers. The first example shows the typical HB wiring. The second shows split coil system. As you can see, the split humbucker configuration is based on one working coil, which has the hot wire.
This month we're going to explore four ways to configure any humbucker that has 4-conductor wiring. (Note: These wiring schemes are not intended for an old-school humbucker with 2-conductor wiring, but rather the modern humbucker that allows coil-splitting and other wiring mods.)
In the Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB wiring that we’ll be doing, the pickup is installed using four colored conductor wires and a bare wire. The SH-4JB is a humbucker that uses a balanced coil configuration to produce improved harmonics with just the right blend of sustain and distortion.
Understanding the color-coded leads. Humbuckers have two coils, with opposite magnetic polarity (North/South facing up). The two ends of each coil wire are connected to the Start lead and the Finish lead. The fth lead is a bare ground wire (some humbuckers do not have this fth lead).
I’ve made a diagram that shows how 4-wire guitar pickup (Humbuckers) are configured. It can help you understand how many types of Guitar P-Up Wiring (like coil split, series, parallel) works.
You’d want a wiring diagram from whatever brand you are using, then match up the correct colours to the correct parts of the pots. Of you aren’t coil tapping or anything two of the wires will just be tied off

Wiring diagrams and color codes for Gibson Humbucking pickups. I-GIBSON. Gibson uses their own color code system for 4-conductor pickups. The schematic below shows the coils and their respective colors. A 4-conductor humbucker has many wiring and tonal options.
