The Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), or the Malaysian Certificate of Education, is a national examination sat for by all Form 5 secondary school students in Malaysia.It is the equivalent of the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) of England, Wales and Northern Ireland; the Nationals 4/5 of Scotland; and the GCE Ordinary Level (O Level) of the Commonwealth of Nations.
Both the O level and A level courses were examined by subject, and matriculation (the minimum standard for university entrance) was set at five passes in different subjects, of which two had to be at A level. For matriculation purposes the highest grade pass of a subject taken at CSE level was considered a pass at O level.
The IGCSE prepares students for further academic study, including progression to A Level and BTEC Level 3 study, LRN Pre-U, IB Diploma Programme and other equivalents.
