The RK Grafichar Skopje club was established in 1948, second only to Rabotnichki in rank and quality. In 1961, Grafičar was renamed Vardar, and almost all members of RK Partizan Skopje joined the team. The emergence of the ambitious Vardar team presented a challenge to Rabotnički, which was no longer the strong first-league team from the past.

The Ultras group KOMITI was noticed for the first time in then SFR Yugoslavia in 1985, on 'Zapad' (West Stand), where the most fanatic fans of Vardar always operated. Two years later during the summer of 4 June 1987 at the City Stadium in Skopje there was a derby match of the Yugoslav league at that time between Vardar Skopje and Red Star Belgrade (3:1).

David Gashoski is a player for the major Macedonian handball team RK Vardar 1961, otherwise HC Vardar, in pivot position. He spent the years of his youth in the Vardar Juniors team, the B team of RK Vardar that competes in the VIP Super League regular season.
