Muhammadiyah University of Makassar was founded on June 19, 1963, as a Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta. The university's establishment was the result of the 21st meeting of Muhammadiyah Organization of South and South-East Sulawesi Chapters conducted in Bantaeng.
