Catholic High School was founded in 1894 as St. Vincent's Academy. The school was so named in recognition of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, who helped organize and establish the school. [4] The original site of the school was an old frame building in downtown Baton Rouge, and the enrollment was 106 students.
The campus is located on 23 acres (93,000 m2) in the Wimbledon subdivision off Perkins Road in South Baton Rouge. The school has a total of 89 classrooms. The Lower School Complex consists of 30 classroom spaces, a library, a music studio and an art studio. The Brown-Holt Chapel Arts Center is the central hub for artistic expression at the school.
The Baton Rouge Colored High School was located at the corner of Perkins Road and Bynum Street in 1913. This facility was later struck by lightning and destroyed. McKinley was the first high school established for African Americans in East Baton Rouge Parish. McKinley's first graduating class was in 1916.
The district requires all students to wear school uniforms, except those attending Baton Rouge Magnet High School and Liberty Magnet High School. Broadmoor High School was founded in 1960 and resides on a 30-acre campus centrally located in the historic Broadmoor Neighborhood [2] of south Baton Rouge. BHS offers an array of traditional and honors level courses, including several AP courses and College Dual Enrollment opportunities with Baton Rouge area colleges (BRCC, SU, LSU) for eligible upperclassmen in good academic standing.
