Cosumnes River College is a public community college in Sacramento, California. It opened in 1970, taking its name from the Cosumnes River which flows just a few miles to the south. As of Spring 2017, enrollment was at 13,091 students at its main and satellite campus in Elk Grove, California.
In 1965 the college became a part of the Los Rios Community College District and became American River College. Today, along with Cosumnes River College , Folsom Lake College and Sacramento City College , ARC is directed by a seven-member board of trustees elected by voters residing in the district.
Los Rios Rancho a 103-year-old apple ranch draws more than 300,000 visitors yearly. Joseph E. Wilshire, who helped make the Oak Glen area famous for apple growing in the early 1900s had realized early on the suitability of The Glen for growing apples and began buying land where with his brothers.
In 1995, Los Rios Ranch was acquired by The Wildlands Conservancy. In 2004, most of the orchard was leased for apple growing and entertainment. In 2014, the Southern California Montane Botanic Garden and Children's Outdoor Discovery Center were opened. [7] In 2018, pests killed many of the oak trees. The diseased trees had to be removed.
