I have hirschsprung's disease and luckily didn't require surgery to continue living a pretty normal life. Needless to say, I still have health problems concerning it, but not all cases REQUIRE surgery. There can be severe and not so severe cases of hirschprung's disease depending on how much of the intestine is affected.
