Magnolia Editions, also known as Magnolia Tapestry Project and Magnolia Press, was founded in 1981 and is a fine art studio and printshop, located in Oakland, California. [1] Magnolia Editions publishes fine art projects, including unique and editions works on paper, artist books, and public art.
In 1981, Farnsworth founded fine art press and publisher Magnolia Editions in the San Francisco Bay Area with co-founders David Kimball and Arne Hiersoux. [6] Farnsworth now publishes artworks at Magnolia's 8,000-square-foot Oakland, California warehouse location, both under his own name and in collaboration with his wife, artist Era Hamaji Farnsworth.
The image actually comes from a photograph that was taken of a print trimming mat. The mat was used by García as well as other artists used at the Magnolia editions Studio. The rightmost panel of the print is a photograph of Frederick Douglas taken in 1897 by George Kendall Warren.
In 2009 Wagener was invited to Magnolia Editions, Oakland, California, [12] to develop large-scale woodcut interpretations of his wood engravings. Four images, two from the Sierra Nevada Mountains and two from Nepal, were published in limited editions. Wagener has produced a number of engraved bookplates that have been collected internationally.
In September 2012, Magnolia Editions published two tapestry editions and three print editions by Close depicting President Barack Obama. The first tapestry was unveiled at the Mint Museum in North Carolina in honor of the Democratic National Convention. These tapestries and prints were sold as a fundraiser to support the Obama Victory Fund.
