Bethany University was a four-year private coeducational Christian university located in Scotts Valley, California, in Santa Cruz County.It operated from 1919 until closing in 2011 and was endorsed by the Assemblies of God USA, a Pentecostal denomination, and was the denomination's oldest college at the time of its closure. In 1983, the Province of New Brunswick, through official legislation, authorized Bethany to grant church-related degrees. [7] Accreditation was granted in 1987 by the Association for Biblical Higher Education and reaffirmed in 1997. In the fall of 2011, the name of Bethany Bible College was formally changed to Kingswood University. [8] [7]
The seminary was founded in 1905 as Bethany Biblical Seminary by A.C. Wieand and E. B. Hoff. While the two were traveling in the Holy Land overlooking the village of Bethany from the Mount of Olives in 1901–02, they decided to name the new Bible institute Bethany. Bethany moved from Chicago's inner city to a new campus in Oak Brook, Il. in 1964.
The Bethany College facilities included the Administration Building, which houses classrooms, the Learning Resource Centre (library), chapel, offices, faculty/staff offices, dining hall, and student lounge and mall area; Bethany Place, which houses the Gymnasium/Auditorium, and classrooms; and the Ministry Arts wing, housing music studios, and more teaching spaces.
Bethany College offers a wide selection of studies, awarding Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degrees in more than 25 fields. If a major does not appeal to a student, Bethany offers students the opportunity to design their own major through the Interdisciplinary program. Bethany also offers dual majors, which is a combination of two majors.
Ralph Meredith Riggs(16 June 1895 – 13 January 1971) [1] was the 8th General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God (1953–1959). [2] Riggs was also a teacher at Bethany Bible College in Santa Cruz, California in the mid-1960s Books by Ralph M. Riggs.
