The Nature Index is a database that tracks institutions and countries/territories and their scientific output since its introduction in November 2014. [1] Originally released with 64 natural-science journals, the Nature Index expanded to 82 natural-science journals in 2018, then added 64 health-science journals in 2023.
While these journals still did not receive an impact factor until the next year, they did contribute citations to the calculation of other journals' impact factors. IC's journal ranking system was criticized in 2013 by Jeffrey Beall because of the alleged high proportion of predatory journals included in it and its suspect evaluation methodology; he characterized the resulting "IC Value" as "a pretty worthless measure". [1] Index Copernicus remains on the list of misleading metrics. [2]
