The Free State is the only province in South Africa that places an expiry date on its registration plate. Every five years the owner is required to replace the plate irrespective of condition. Lesotho requires its residents to register their motor vehicles and display vehicle registration plates. Plates are blue-on-white for private vehicles and red-on-white for government vehicles.
