Surrey is the 11th largest city in Canada, and is also the fifth-largest city in Western Canada (after Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver). Surrey forms an integral part of Metro Vancouver as it is the largest city in the region by land area, albeit while also serving as the secondary economic core of the metropolitan area.
The Surrey Public Library operates a branch in Ocean Park. There are two waterfront walks in Ocean Park. 1001 Steps Park, at the foot of 128th Street near Camp Kwomais, has stairs down to waterfront access and nature trails. Ocean Park Shoreline Walk is a tidal-beach walk. The beach is a clothing-optional one just as the Wreck Beach.
The ornate Crescent Beach Hotel was built there in the 1890s. After it burnt to the ground in 1973, then-owners Joe and Gloria Barry built the restaurant, adding Victorian-style gardens.
