The venue is home to the MSU Beavers football and women's soccer teams. It was named in 1983 for Herb Parker, the long-time coach and athletic director.
Minot State University athletics previously competed in the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) which was a part of the NAIA.The Minot State University Beavers won NAIA national championships in men's cross country in 2002 and 2003, the only team national championships in the school's history.

Herbert Mitchell Parker (January 18, 1921 – October 7, 2007) was an American educator, football and basketball coach, and athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Minot State Teacher's College—now known as Minot State University—from 1947 to 1949 and in 1951, compiling a record of 21–6–1.
