Two of the most popular activities Raystown Lake offers are boating and camping. Raystown Lake has seven public boat launches; Seven points, Snyder's Run, Aitch, Tatman Run, Shy Beaver, James Creek, and Weaver Falls. There are also many campsites. Some of which are Sesquenhannock Campground, Pleasant Hills Campground, and Allegrippis Lodge.

The roadcut on the north side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike at the Narrows water gap (where the Raystown Branch cuts through Evitts Mountain) exposes a continuous section of the Reedsville Formation, Bald Eagle Formation, Juniata Formation, and the Tuscarora Formation. The beds of the Bald Eagle are overturned, folded, and faulted.
Traveling east from Entriken, the route travels to the southeast before turning to the north and making a U-turn to parallel the shore of Raystown Lake. PA 994 then crosses the lake twice, once on a small bridge crossing a small "finger" of the lake and the second time on a bridge that is combination of a land bridge and a man-made bridge.
