Port Huron is a city and county seat of St. Clair County, Michigan, United States. [4] The population was 28,983 at the 2020 census. The city is bordered on the west by Port Huron Township, but the two are administered autonomously. Port Huron is located along the source of the St. Clair River at the southern end of Lake Huron.
Birchwood Mall is an enclosed shopping mall located in Fort Gratiot Township, outside the city of Port Huron, Michigan, United States. The Mall features more than 100 stores and a food court. The mall's anchor stores are CubeSmart, Dunham's Sports, JCPenney, and Target. Other major tenants include Planet Fitness and AMC Birchwood 10.
Wilbur F. Davidson was born in Adrian in 1852. He graduated from Howell High School in 1870, and in 1882 he opened a large dry goods store in Port Huron. In 1883 Davidson installed an electric light plant in his store.
In 2016, the company acquired Deluxe Feeds, another Iowa-based feed company. The assets in the deal included Deluxe Feeds' retail stores, feed mills, and its Midwest EnRG Flakes operations. [6] In June 2017, the company announced a $37-million expansion of the Deluxe Feeds plant in Sheldon, Iowa. [7]
Ludwig Teweles created the L. Teweles Seed Co. in 1865 when he first started selling chicken feathers, seeds and feed. [1] Teweles immigrated from Bohemia and opened a general store in Kellnersville, a produce business in Sheboygan, a seed company in Milwaukee and finally, the L. Teweles Seed Co. [1] The business grew quickly and became a powerhouse in seed production in the midwest.
At its peak, the H. C. Prange Co. had 25 stores, 18 in Wisconsin, five in Michigan, and two in Illinois, with a total of about 2,100,000 square feet (200,000 m 2) of retail space. [2] In 1991, Prange's department store unit had sales of about $229 million (~$457 million in 2023). The company's largest store was in Green Bay's Port Plaza Mall.
The 1830s saw a quick jump in land prices around Port Huron, as well as a substantial influx of new residents. By 1840, Port Huron had over 1000 citizens. It was organized into a village in 1849, and into a city in 1857, and by 1864, over 4000 people lived in Port Huron, with the increase in economic development led primarily by the lumber trade.
