Dead Silence is a 2007 American supernatural horror film directed by James Wan and written by Leigh Whannell. The film stars Ryan Kwanten as Jamie Ashen, a young widower returning to his hometown to search for answers to his wife's death. It also stars Amber Valletta, Donnie Wahlberg, and Bob Gunton.
Dead Silence premiered on HBO during January 1997. That year the film was also released on VHS in Australia, [3] the UK and several other countries. A few months after its HBO premiere, the film was screened at the 1997 edition of the Cannes Film Festival, despite being a made for TV production. It also received a theatrical release in Japan. [2]
Critical reception for Dead Silence has been positive and Locus included it on their list of the best horror novels of 2022. [10] [11] [12] Gabino Iglesias reviewed the novel for Locus, praising it for its atmosphere, setting, and for "simultaneously exploring the role that past trauma and PTSD can play when someone who suffers from them is exposed to fresh trauma."
