Appalachian State University (/ ˌ æ p ə ˈ l æ tʃ ən / [a]), or App State, is a public university in Boone, North Carolina, United States.It was founded as a teachers' college in 1899 by brothers B. B. and D. D. Dougherty and the latter's wife, Lillie Shull Dougherty.
The Appalachian School of Law (ASL) is a private law school in Grundy, Virginia. It is accredited by the American Bar Association and offers a three-year Juris Doctor degree to approximately 128 full-time students. [2] The school was founded in 1994 and admitted its first class of students in August 1997.
Also, approximately 8000 videos, DVDs, laser discs and audiotapes are in the media collection. The Undergraduate Library also provides students with information on careers, computers, and student survival skills. In the Association of Research Libraries, Wayne State University libraries rank among the top 60 libraries.

The additional space allowed for a conference room, map and over-sized material room, as well as additional storage space. In 1986, in recognition of ETSU's 75th anniversary, the archives produced a series of exhibits on ETSU's history and helped prepare a time capsule that was deposited in one of the globe columns at the campus amphitheater.
Some of the first well-known Appalachian scholarship was done by Cratis D. Williams. His 1937 MA thesis in English from the University of Kentucky focused on 471 ballads and songs from eastern Kentucky and his 1961 PhD dissertation at New York University was called "The Southern Mountaineer in Fact and Fiction" with part of it appearing in The Appalachian Journal 1975–76.
The library's basement was renovated in 2006 to replace the aging electrical systems and install retractable bookshelves [6] Several years later the third floor was remodeled to act as a quiet study area featuring ample seating, phone and computer chargers, and private study rooms. The renovations were completed in 2014.
