Villa Mella (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈbiʝa ˈmeʝa]), or San Felipe de Villa Mella, is a municipality in Santo Domingo Norte, Dominican Republic.Villa Mella is located north of the Isabela River, about 6 miles (or 10 kilometers) to the north of the center of Santo Domingo, and is considered an additional neighborhood of the capital.
Santo Domingo Norte was created as a municipality in 2001 by Law 163-01 splitting the Santo Domingo province from the Distrito Nacional including those parts of metropolitan Santo Domingo north of the Isabela River. [4] [5]
The provinces as the second level of political and administrative division contain at least two municipalities. The Distrito Nacional, which is neither a municipality nor a province, consists of only one municipality, Santo Domingo (Constitution: "the city of Santo Domingo de Guzmán is the Distrito Nacional" [5]).
It connects Santo Domingo to the province of Monte Plata and Monseñor Nouel. Its two lanes run mostly through metropolitan Santo Domingo and it connects the Distrito Nacional with Santo Domingo Norte and Villa Mella. DR-13 is the only highway in Santo Domingo that crosses Greater Santo Domingo in its entirety.
