Beginning in 1918, the fair has grown considerably over the past century. In its first year, Clay County Fair drew 30,000 guests. In 1936, the fair completed construction of its second grandstand, able to seat more than 7,500. It remains in use today. During the 1930s, the fair continued construction of agricultural buildings for livestock.
