I have disconnected the USB line, reconnected it with device's power on; Turned it on and off while connected, disconnected, and done all possible combinations numerous times. Following the simple instructions, I power it up, plug in the USB 3.0 cable (my PC also has USB 3.0) and I switch it on. It starts up, prompting me to launch the Lacie Setup Assistant. Unfortunately, the assistant fails me.
a) Press Windows + X key on the keyboard and select Device Manager. b) Locate the USB driver. c) Right click on the USB driver icon and select Uninstall. d) Restart the computer. After restarting the computer, USB driver will automatically be installed. e) Connect the external hard drive through the USB and check if it responds.
Windows cannot read mac formatted drives but there are 3rd party tools that may be able to help. The recommendation is to use the exFAT file system which can be read by both iOS and Windows operating systems. Have a look at HFSExplorer which is free and offers basic functionality. It shows up in device manager but says no driver installed. When I try to update the driver it says the driver is up to date. I have another drive of the same type that works fine. It shows the same properties but with a different location. I've tried all usb ports with the same result.
