The Phoenix was founded in 1965 by Joe Hanlon, a former editor at MIT's student newspaper, The Tech.Since many Boston-area college newspapers were printed at the same printing firm, Hanlon's idea was to do a four-page single-sheet insert with arts coverage and ads.
In the February 9, 1969 edition of the Arizona Republic, Ron Lowry (then called Butch Lowry) was said to be Bob Sikora's latest country-western discovery and was going to have a record out on the Dot label shortly. The Woody Starr song, "All Over Now", [3] [4] was produced by Sikora. At the time, Lowry was appearing at Sikora's Mr Lucky's club.
