[2] According to the 2021 Canadian census, British Columbia is the third most populous province in Canada, with 5,000,879 inhabitants, and the second largest province by land area, covering 920,686.55 square kilometres (355,479.06 square miles).
The Tri-Cities are an informal grouping of the three adjacent suburban cities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody, along with the two villages of Anmore and Belcarra in the northeast sector of Metro Vancouver in British Columbia. [1] [2] Combined, these five communities had a population of 246,701 residents in 2021.
The trail was conceived as a project in 1967 for the city of Port Coquitlam, as a mean for celebrating Canada’s 100th birthday. Developments began in the early 70s by a group called the "PoCo Trail Blazers". In 1997, the city began to improve the trail in order to make it a central part of the community.
Coquitlam—Port Coquitlam was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. It came into effect upon the call of the 2015 Canadian federal election, where Liberal MP Ron McKinnon won in the riding.
