The district encompasses 38 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 5 contributing structures in the crossroads village of Whitsett. The contributing resources were built between 1894 and 1921, and developed around the Whitsett Institute, that operated from 1884 to 1919. Located in the district and separately listed is Holly Gate.
As of the census [4] of 2000, there were 686 people, 279 households, and 215 families residing in the town. The population density was 243.4 inhabitants per square mile (94.0/km 2).
Low House is a historic home located near Whitsett, Guilford County, North Carolina. It dates to the 1820s, and is a two-story, five bay Federal-style brick dwelling. It has a gable roof, stone foundation, and one-story rear wing. The house was renovated in 1968–1969. [2] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. [1]

It was built in 1908–1910, and is a 2 + 1 ⁄ 2-story, transitional Queen Anne / Colonial Revival style frame dwelling. It has a tall hipped roof, three high chimneys, and a wraparound porch.
