Winnebago High School competes in the Big Northern Conference and has won state titles in multiple sports competitions, including a combined 20 state titles in boys and girls cross-country as well as state titles in boys soccer, and girls bowling [3] as well as multiple individual state championships.
The conference was formed in 1991 as a football-only union of the Big Eight Conference and the Mid-Northern Conference.The original 12 members consisted of six Big Eight schools (Burlington Central, Genoa-Kingston, Hampshire, Harvard, Marengo, and Richmond-Burton), five Mid-Northern schools (Byron, Forreston, Oregon, Stillman Valley, and Winnebago), and one independent school (Ottawa Marquette).

The main entrance of Winnebago Lutheran Academy The front of Winnebago Lutheran Academy. WLA was founded in 1925 by St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. After its start at the corner of Second and Marr streets in downtown Fond du Lac next to St. Peter's Church, the academy was moved in 1955 to its current location at 475 E. Merrill Avenue.
