West Main Street Historic District is a national historic district located at Lincolnton, Lincoln County, North Carolina. It encompasses 18 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Lincolnton. It includes notable examples of Federal, Greek Revival and Colonial Revival style architecture dating between about 1819 and 1941.
With the advantage of the South Fork of the Catawba, Lincolnton was the site of the first textile mill in North Carolina, constructed by Michael Schenck in 1813. [9] It was the first cotton mill built south of the Potomac River. [10] Cotton processing became a major industry in the area. St. Luke's Episcopal Church was founded in 1841. [11]
