Film-maker Adrian Maben, interested in combining art with Pink Floyd's music, [4] contacted David Gilmour and the band's manager, Steve O'Rourke, in 1971 to discuss the possibilities of making a film in which the band's music was played over images of paintings by René Magritte, Jean Tinguely, Giorgio de Chirico and others.
Live at Pompeii is a live album and film by David Gilmour, the guitarist of Pink Floyd. It was recorded at the Amphitheatre of Pompeii . It documents his 2015–16 world tour to promote his album, Rattle That Lock (2015).
On 5 November 2016 Pink Floyd announced, via their official Facebook page, that an extra CD would now be included in the set – Live at Pompeii. [ 13 ] [ 14 ] The Pompeii performance had never been officially released on CD before.
Film director Adrian Maben captured Pink Floyd's only live performance of "Seamus" (in a greatly altered form, excluding lyrics, and retitled "Mademoiselle Nobs") in his film Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii. To recreate the song, David Gilmour played harmonica instead of singing and Roger Waters played one of Gilmour's Stratocaster guitars.
The song became a live favourite for Pink Floyd. Live versions can be found on various releases, such as the live half of the double album Ummagumma and the film Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii. It was performed sporadically after 1973, with a final one-off performance in 1977.
