Ricardo Sánchez (29 March 1941 – 3 September 1995) was a writer, poet, professor, and activist. Sometimes called the "grandfather of Chicano poetry," Sánchez gained national acclaim for his 1971 poetry collection Canto y Grito Mi Liberacion.
After spending 12 years with El Chicano, Regalado formed his own Latin Jazz All-Star Band in 1983, which included a select group of musicians from Los Angeles. Initially known as Todos Estrellas , the band eventually became known as Chévere and appeared at the Playboy Jazz Festival , Disneyland and Fiesta Broadway , among other engagements.
Villarreal's novel Pocho (1959) is one of the first Chicano novels, and the first to gain widespread recognition.Pocho has been called the "pivotal transitional link between 'Mexican American' and 'Chicano' literature", both because of its strengths as a novel and because of its use in the rediscovery and recuperation of Latino literature in the 1970s.
