Herāt (/ h ɛ ˈ r ɑː t /; [4] Farsi/Pashto: هرات) is an oasis city and the third-largest city in Afghanistan. [5] In 2020, it had an estimated population of 574,276, and serves as the capital of Herat Province, situated south of the Paropamisus Mountains (Selseleh-ye Safēd Kōh) in the fertile valley of the Hari River in the western part of the country.
After the 2016 National Census, Marvast District [a] was separated from the county in the establishment of Marvast County and renamed the Central District. [4] Chahak Rural District was separated from the Central District of Khatam County in the formation of Chahak District, including the new Shahriari Rural District.
The Zinda Jan District is located in the central part of Herat Province in Afghanistan. It borders Gulran and Kushk districts to the north, Injil and Guzara districts to the east, Adraskan District to the south and Ghoryan and Kohsan districts to the west. The population is 55,500 (2012 year). [1]
The population Kushki Kuhna is 44,400 (as of 2012), [1] which includes the following ethnic groups: 55% Tajik, 40% Pashtun and 5% Hazara. [2] The headquarters or district center is also known as Kushki Kuhna. The main source of income is the agriculture. The infrastructure, health and education systems have been improved since 2002.

Herat dates back to the Avestan times and was traditionally known for its wine. The city has a number of historic sites, including the Herat Citadel and the Musalla Complex. During the Middle Ages Herat became one of the important cities of Khorasan, as it was known as the Pearl of Khorasan. [3]
