William Ah Hang (also known as John Ah Hang and surname also shown as Heng; his Chinese name was Tong Kee Hang) was born in Canton, China around the year 1839. His exact date of birth is unknown. Hang emigrated by ship, most likely a commercial vessel called The Dreadnaught, from Canton to the United States at the age of 17 years old.
