U.S. Bicycle Route 1 now has an additional run from the state of Maine to New Hampshire. U.S. Bicycle Route 1A is a sea-side alternate route for USBR 1 in Maine. U.S. Bicycle Route 8 runs from Fairbanks, Alaska, along the Alaska Highway, to the Canadian border. U.S. Bicycle Route 108 runs from its parent route in Tok, Alaska, to Anchorage.
The New Hampshire and Maine sections of USBR 1 were approved in May 2011, [2] with the New Hampshire section following the East Coast Greenway. Also approved was an alternate route, U.S. Bicycle Route 1A, that runs closer to the coast through a portion of Maine. The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) is a 3,083.8 mi (4,962.9 km), off-road bicycle touring route between Jasper, Alberta, Canada and Antelope Wells, New Mexico, USA. Completed in 1997, the GDMBR was developed by Adventure Cycling Association, who continue to maintain highly detailed route maps and a guidebook. [1] [2] [3]
