Mount Hood Meadows is a ski resort on the southeastern face of Mount Hood in northern Oregon, and is the largest of the mountain's ski resorts. It is located about 67 miles (108 km) east of Portland , and 35 miles (56 km) from Hood River along Oregon Route 35 .

The trail is most easily accessible from Timberline Lodge, which has Forest Service permitted parking (which you can purchase at Timberline Lodge) for backpackers, as well as public transit access by Mt. Hood Express bus. It can also be accessed from Mt. Hood Meadows Ski Resort and numerous connecting trails from trailheads around the mountain.

Timberline Lodge is a National Historic Landmark located on the southern flank of Mount Hood just below Palmer Glacier, with an elevation of about 6,000 ft (1,800 m). After Meadows North LLC abandoned its initiative to develop Cooper Spur, a proposal was made to trade Cooper Spur's facilities, existing 770 acres (3.1 km 2), and its special-use permit which authorizes 1,350 acres (5.5 km 2) of development in exchange for 120 acres (0.49 km 2) of Forest Service land near Government Camp.
