Central Azucarera Don Pedro was established in 1927 during the American colonial era becoming, one of the first sugar milling companies in the Philippines. [2] This was when the business' first sugar mill in Nasugbu, Batangas was built. [3] The sugar mill business would be incorporated three years later.
In 1893, J. & P. Coats absorbed the Conant Thread Company and assumed direct control over the Pawtucket plant, under the management of James Coats (1834–1913) and Alfred M. Coats (1869–1942). [5] In 1896 J. and P. Coats acquired controlling interests in the firms of Clark and Co, Jonas Brook and Brothers, and James Chadwick and Brother. [ 6 ]
The company ended up rebuilding the mill in 1880 to near its current state. The last mill built on the complex was built in 1910. [3] The mill ended up under control by the American Thread Company in 1898 due to the merger of the previous ownership of the mill. [2] The mill was closed in 1985 due to the company moving operations to the South. [4]
