In 1928, Fairfax County proposed a sanitation ordinance, but all sewage was dumped untreated into the tributaries as well as the Potomac River until the 1950s. [2] The first sewer lines ran from Falls Church to the Potomac, along Tripps Run, Holmes Run, and Cameron Run. These sewer lines dumped raw sewage directly into the Potomac until 1954 [2]

Huntley was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 3 November 1972. [1] In 1989, Huntley was acquired by the Fairfax County Park Authority. Due to vandalism, it was boarded and fenced until restoration funds were secured. [6] In May 2010 a contract was made for restoration and the work begun that fall.
