Richard Doron Johnson is an American composer, jazz pianist, and music professor. He is a Jazz professor at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. Johnson often plays at music venues and jazz festivals such as the Detroit International Jazz Festival, Marciac France jazz festival, Chicago Jazz Festival and Hyde Park Jazz Festival.
His improvisations draw from the traditions of jazz and other genres, including Western classical music, gospel, blues, and ethnic folk music. His album The Köln Concert, released in 1975, is the best-selling piano recording in history. [2] In 2008, he was inducted into DownBeat Jazz Hall of Fame in the magazine's 73rd Annual Readers' Poll. Shirasaki was born September 16, 1969, [1] and started classical piano lessons at age 5; she was also intrigued by her father's jazz trumpet-playing. She began her professional career at the age of twelve by playing gigs in her family's band at the "J" jazz club in Tokyo.
Paterson was the winner of the inaugural Ellis Marsalis Jazz Piano Competition, held in 2018. [2] The prize included $25,000 cash. Starting in 2019 Paterson became one only a few jazz musicians who are designated Steinway Artists.
