Churubusco is a hamlet in the Town of Clinton, in Clinton County, New York, United States. The community is located on New York State Route 189 , north of U.S. Route 11 near the Quebec border. The community was named in honor of the U.S. troops who fought in the Battle of Churubusco campaign during the Mexican–American War .

Millard Sheets was born June 24, 1907, and grew up in the Pomona Valley, east of Los Angeles. [2] [3] He is the son of John Sheets. [4]He attended the Chouinard Art Institute and studied with painters Frank Tolles Chamberlin and Clarence Hinkle. [5]
The Battle of Churubusco took place on August 20, 1847, while Santa Anna's army was in retreat from the Battle of Contreras or Battle of Padierna during the Mexican–American War. It was the battle where the San Patricio Battalion , made up largely of US deserters, made their last stand against U.S. forces.
