The Tunica Roadhouse Hotel was a hotel and spa located in Tunica Resorts, Mississippi. [1]Until the casino portion of the property closed in January 2019, it was one of three casinos located in Casino Center, along with its sister property Horseshoe Casino Tunica and MGM Mirage's Gold Strike Tunica.
The facility was opened on May 25, 1994, [1] by Boyd Gaming as the third casino branded as Sam's Town [a] and the first casino opened by Boyd outside of Nevada. It was built to replicate a Western town; at the time it opened it was 400,000 square feet (37,000 m 2) in size with a 200-room hotel.
The upgrade, which took two years to complete and is the largest in the casino resort's history, included all of Gold Strike's 1,133 oversized rooms and 125 suites, the conference and convention center, the Atrium Café, the Courtyard Buffet and the high-limit gaming and lobby areas.
Local news outlets reported that the repurposed facility would house as many as 2,000 children and teens at the hotels that were part of the Harrah’s casino complex, which closed in 2014.
The casino features more than 70 table games, more than 2,000 slot machines, a large poker room, three fine-dining restaurants, a large buffet and a snack bar. The hotel features more than 500 rooms, most configured as suites. The main showroom, the "Bluesville Showcase Nightclub" opened in 1998 and seats 1,400.
The Veranda Resort Hotel, which opened in 1996 along with the casino, contained 532 rooms and 36 suites. The largest hotel was the Terrace Hotel & Spa, which opened in 1999 and contained 563 rooms and 37 suites. Grand Casino Tunica's original owner was Grand Casinos, Inc., headed by Lyle Berman, a pioneer in developing resort-style casinos on ...
