The Main Building of the school received a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2002 and, in 2008, construction began on a chemistry lab addition, which was finished in 2009. The football field, known as Memorial Stadium, received new astroturf in 2004 and this was replaced in 2018.

Ripley Historic District is a national historic district located at Ripley, Jackson County, West Virginia.It encompasses 110 contributing buildings, one contributing site (the Early Settlers Cemetery), and one contributing structure that include the commercial and civic core of the town, and surrounding residential buildings.
In October 2012, she and her husband Harold Starcher ate at a Bob Evans restaurant in Ripley, where both allegedly suffered food poisoning. Both spent their final months in hospitals and hospice care. Virginia Starcher died at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia on December 19, 2012, and Harold died on May 6, 2013. [5]

Blackhurst was born on October 10, 1904, in Arbovale, West Virginia, to Rev. Harry Blackhurst (1870–1956) and his wife Lula May née Burner (1870–1960).His father, an immigrant from Tunstall, England, came to America in 1886 with his parents Jabez (1843–1914) and Sarah (1842–1924), and Warren's mother was an American-born native of Pocahontas County, West Virginia.
