The Brat was a Chicano punk rock ensemble originating from the barrios of East Los Angeles, California. Its three core members were lead singer Teresa Covarrubias, lead guitarist Rudy Medina, and alternate lead and rhythm guitarist Sidney Medina.
Da Brat was born on April 14, 1974 in Chicago, Illinois, [3] [4] [5] and was raised primarily on the West Side of the city. [6] Her father, David Ray McCoy, was a businessman, and her mother, Nadine Brewer, was a city bus driver. [7] [8] Her parents never married, and Brat was subsequently raised in two different households.
The band formed in 2002 with Miller (vocals), Cameron McGlinchey (drums), Alex Lange (guitar) and Matt Cornell (bass). [1] They released "He Said She Said" in July 2003. The song, written by Miller, Simon Austin ( Frente ) and Barry Palmer , [ 2 ] debuted at number 77 on the ARIA Single chart. [ 3 ]
