This is the true story of Kent Stock, who in 1991 takes on what he perceives as the job of a lifetime as head coach of the Norway High School Tigers baseball team, which has won 19 state titles and has a baseball tradition in Iowa tantamount to that of the New York Yankees nationally.
The storied Norway High School baseball team amassed twenty Iowa state titles, with the first coming in 1965, and the last in their final season in 1991. Norway competed in the 1A class, the class for the smallest of school districts, of Iowa high school athletics. [ 1 ]
The Norway school district merged into the Benton district on July 1, 1995. [8] The schools themselves consolidated earlier in a grade-sharing arrangement in the fall of 1991. It is part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area. Norway is the setting of the movie The Final Season.
