A twelve-inch Capitol Records gramophone record. The twelve-inch single (often written as 12-inch or 12″) is a type of vinyl (polyvinyl chloride or PVC) gramophone record that has wider groove spacing and shorter playing time with a "single" or a few related sound tracks on each surface, compared to LPs (long play) which have several songs on each side.
The most common diameter sizes for gramophone records are 12-inch, 10-inch, and 7-inch (300 mm, 250 mm, and 180 mm). [1] Early American shellac records were all 7-inch until 1901, when 10-inch records were introduced. 12-inch records joined them in 1903. [2]

The 12"/50 caliber Mark 7 gun (spoken "twelve-inch-fifty-caliber") was a United States Navy's naval gun that first entered service in 1912. Initially designed for use with the Wyoming class of dreadnought battleships, the Mark 7 also armed the Argentine Navy 's Rivadavia -class battleships .
In about 1879, the British government finally decided to return to breechloading guns. For the 12-inch (305 mm) caliber, this led to the BL 12-inch Mk I – II naval gun of 43 (later 47) tons designed by the Royal Arsenal in early 1882. While this gun did have some steel coils, it still relied heavily on wrought iron parts. [7]
