Louis J. Roussel III, known as Louie Roussel (born January 13, 1946, in New Orleans, Louisiana), is an American businessman and a Thoroughbred racehorse owner and trainer who owned Fair Grounds Race Course and who won the final two legs of the 1988 U.S. Triple Crown series with Risen Star, a colt later voted the Eclipse Award as the American Champion Three-Year-Old Male Horse.
Church Point (French: Pointe-à-l'Église [4]) is a town in Acadia Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 4,560 at the 2010 census. [5] It is part of the Crowley Micropolitan Statistical Area. Church Point is known as the Buggy Capital of the World as it used to be host to the annual Buggy Festival which has since gone defunct.
One of Davis's state Senate colleagues, Cecil R. Blair of Rapides Parish, who served from 1960 to 1964 and 1966–1976, resided and operated a business in Lecompte. The late Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Clyde C. Holloway , a resident of nearby Forest Hill , was born in Lecompte in 1943.
Duncan Kenner had a race track, [12] raced horses, and in 1854 a slave named Abe Hawkins, [13] riding Lecomte, won over a horse named Lexington in New Orleans. Abe was inducted into the Louisiana Racing Museum Hall of Fame in 1997. While Kenner was absent from Louisiana the Civil War ended.
