Thurmont is a town in Frederick County, Maryland, United States. The population was 6,935 at the 2020 census . The town is located in the northern part of Frederick County (north of Frederick , the county seat ), approximately ten miles from the Pennsylvania border, along U.S. Highway 15 .

MD 550 was extended through Thurmont, west along MD 77 and north along MD 806, and assumed all of MD 81 in 1977. [30] Construction on MD 194's bypass of Woodsboro was started in 1995. [ 31 ] When the bypass was completed in 1997, MD 550 was removed from the center of Woodsboro to its present alignment on the northern and eastern sides of town.
