Santee State Park is in the Sandhills of South Carolina on the western edge of the 110,000-acre (445 km 2) Lake Marion. It is located off SC 6, three miles (5 km) northwest of the town of Santee and I-95. [3] The park offers boating, hiking, camping, birding, canoeing and kayaking.
It has become a resort town of note located centrally north-south along the Atlantic Seaboard of South Carolina. The region has been rural, with a primarily agricultural economy typical of Orangeburg County, but is now known primarily for its several golf courses in proximity to Lake Marion, Santee State Park and other Lake Marion attractions.
There SC 45 departs to the west and SC 6 continues along the lake through Vance to Santee, where it intersects Interstate 95. It then adjoins the Santee State Park on its right. After a concurrency with SC 267 begins, it becomes Main Street through Elloree, South Carolina. The concurrency ends when SC 267 turns off to the right onto Lonestar Road.

Public access is provided through several public boat ramps, Santee State Park, and the Santee National Wildlife Refuge. Interstate 95 (As well as U.S. Routes 15 and 301 which are Concurrent with I-95) cross the man-made lake near the town of Santee. Lake Marion is home to several communities and camps for youth and students.

As the routes turn east, the roadway continues north as US 15 Connector to service Santee. [9] In Santee, the two highways merge with I-95 at exit 98 and all three cross Lake Marion . At exit 102, US 15/US 301 split off from I-95 returning to the former segment of US 15/US 301, now named St. Paul Road and go into the town of Summerton .
From Orangeburg, US 301 ran southwest with U.S. Route 601 to Bamberg, replaced SC 33 to Ulmer, replaced SC 508 to Allendale, and replaced SC 73 to the Georgia state line. [ citation needed ] When I-95 was built across Lake Marion in 1968, [ 8 ] US 301 and 15 traveled parallel to it until they were relocated in a triple concurrency in 1987. [ 9 ]
