Washington Emergency Service Ribbon (WSESR) - Previously known as the Washington State Disaster Relief Ribbon from 3 May 1963 to 31 December 1994. This ribbon shall be awarded to any person ordered by the governor into state active duty or to any individual(s) providing support services during a declared state of emergency.
The members of some state defense force may also be awarded state National Guard military decorations in addition to state defense force awards while serving in a state defense force capacity. The order of precedence for the wear of the awards are: federal, state National Guard, then state defense force.
The ribbon is presently authorized for any National Guard personnel from any state, territory or the District of Columbia who deployed to the area before, during, or after the 59th U.S. Presidential Inauguration on Title 32 orders. Future periods of inaugural support will also establish eligibility for wear of the ribbon.
The WSG HQ is located at Camp Murray in Tacoma, Washington. State Guard soldiers drill in a non-pay status one day a month and two days during the summer. However, WSG soldiers can and have been called up to paid state active duty to support the Washington Military Department in a variety of missions within the state.

State law requires that the Medal of Valor "be of .999 pure silver and shall consist of the seal of the state of Washington, surrounded by a raised laurel wreath and suspended from a silver bar device inscribed "For Valor" which is suspended from a ring attached by a dark green ribbon, bordered by silver."
