Pinellas Park High School is one of the most ethnically diverse schools of the country, comprising a large number of students from Latin and Asian countries. ESOL students form 6% of the total school population, and special education students make up 17% of the student body. PPHS is one of the district centers for special education students.
As of the 2023–24 school year, the school had an enrollment of 856 students and 80.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.7:1. There were 60 students (7.0% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 15 (1.8% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch. [1]
From 1874 to 1926, the population of the High School varied substantially, with a high of 127 students in 1880. Several Port Perry High School students fought in the Great War of 1914-18; ten students died in action during the war. A plaque was erected to honour them by the staff and students of PPHS in June, 1919.
During the school year of 1934-35 three hundred eighty-two students were enrolled in the high school. There were thirteen teachers in the faculty, with Mr. Peter H. Steenbergen serving as a most efficient principal. Five buses came in from the country bringing many rural students who would not, otherwise, be able to secure a high school education.
