District 9 is a United States Coast Guard district, based at the Anthony J. Celebrezze Federal Building, in Cleveland, Ohio.District 9 is responsible for all Coast Guard operations on the five Great Lakes, the Saint Lawrence Seaway, and surrounding states accumulating 6,700 miles of shoreline and 1,500 miles of international shoreline with Canada.
The 107th Cavalry was formed in 1877 in Cleveland as a local militia following the great railroad strike. On 10 October 1877 the Troop was named the First City Troop of Cleveland. On 10 September 1887 the unit was mustered into the Ohio National Guard.
The unit was reorganized on 25 July 1910 as the 1st Cavalry Squadron with headquarters at Cleveland. Troops C and D were organized in 1911 at Cincinnati and Toledo, respectively. It was mustered into federal service on 6 July 1916 at Columbus, and mustered out on 28 February 1917 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana.
