This Train was originally introduced in the Annual Railway Budget of 1996–97 as a daily Rajdhani Express from New Delhi to Patna via Lucknow. Later it was rerouted to run via Prayagraj. In 1997, the pantry car service was introduced. [1] In 2009, it was certified as the only ISO-Certified Rajdhani Express of Indian Railways till now.
The 12305 / 12306 Howrah–New Delhi Rajdhani Express is a Rajdhani class train belonging to Eastern Railway zone that runs between Howrah Junction and New Delhi in India via Patna Junction. It is currently being operated with 12305/12306 train numbers on a weekly basis.
On 1 March 1969, the first Rajdhani Express with nine coaches was flagged off from New Delhi to Howrah with the return journey commencing on 3 March. [4] The train completed the 1,450 km (900 mi) trip in 17 hours 20 minutes and was the only such train in operation till 1972, when the second Rajdhani was introduced from Mumbai .

The second type of AC Express was introduced in 1991. After the Mumbai Rajdhani was launched in 1972, there was a high demand for another pair of Rajdhani Express trains between Delhi and Mumbai. To meet this demand, on 1 July 1991, Indian Railways inaugurated the Bombay Central – New Delhi AC Express.
