ABS-CBN (an initialism of its two predecessors' names, Alto Broadcasting System and Chronicle Broadcasting Network) was a Philippine commercial broadcast network that served as the flagship property of the ABS-CBN Corporation, a company under the Lopez Group owned by the López family.
A year later, the Lopezes acquired ABS. The ABS-CBN brand was first used on television in 1961. The conglomerate became known as ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation on February 1, 1967. It then changed its corporate name to ABS-CBN Corporation in August 2007 where it dropped the word "Broadcasting" on primary uses, to signify its diversification. [6]
